Wellington sex realists met recently in Wellington to celebrate the UK Supreme Court’s ruling that the Equality Act's definition of "woman" refers to biological sex.

The Ruling:

The Supreme Court unanimously decided that the terms "woman" and "sex" in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex, not certificated sex (as per the Gender Recognition Act).

  • Implications:

This means that transgender women, even those with GRCs, are not considered women under the Equality Act for the purposes of single-sex services and protections.
