A Step Forward in the Battle for Single Sex Spaces - RCR Radio talks to MARG CURNOW

Paul Brennan speaks with Margaret Curnow of LAVA about a significant Australian Federal Court decision that challenges earlier human rights decisions and may influence LAVA’s case in New Zealand. Listen to Marg HERE

In this interview on RCR Radio, Marg discusses the LAG case, in which lesbians were blocked from holding a women-only event that excluded men who identify themselves as lesbian. LAG appealed and had the decision set aside, and the matter will be reheard. Marg hopes an Australian Federal Court finding—that the Australian Human Rights Commission and a District Court erred, and that biological reality must be considered—will influence the New Zealand Human Rights Commission. Marg and Paul also discuss the UK Supreme Court’s reference to the “incoherence” that follows from denying biological reality, as well as broader themes, including power imbalances and recent shifts in women’s sports eligibility rules.
