Escaping violence and lesbophobia in their home country, lesbian refugees are sent by UNHCR to the Kakuma refugee camp. As they are seeking asylum due to their sexuality they are put in the LGBT Block 13. This identifies them to other refugees in the camp and they suffer ongoing violence and abuse as a result. The UNHCR and Police have been informed of these crimes but do nothing to support them or keep them safe.

Donate to the Campaign
Filia is raising money via PayPal and providing direct assistance to plug the gaps left by UNHCR by way of food and medical assistance. You can donate to the FiLiA fundraiser (select Kakuma Campaign) to give directly to the Lesbians in Block 13.

If you want your donation to go towards all of the residents of Block 13, use the alternative fundraiser managed by Chauncey Dandridge.

Watch the FiLiA film about Kakuma Refugee Camp.

Listen to the 2020 FiLiA podcast. FiLiA spoke with lesbians Kelly, Eva, Keryn, Juliet, Seema, Latifah, Ann-Marie, Brenda and Regina - all are living in block 13 of Kakuma refugee camp.

New Zealand has no embassy in Kenya, but Honorary Consul Stewart Henderson might want to be reminded that he can help by writing a letter to the UNHCR, making a few phone calls, organising some aid, donating some money, speaking to the local papers, or helping you help the lesbians of Kakuma in any way he can...

Here are his details:
